Electric vs propane, temperature control, sewer or composting uh…byproduct management systems. The options and choices of the many appliances are about as overwhelming as a convention center crammed with the latest green home remodeling goods or a baby boutique with every type of cloth diaper imaginable. The confusion is compounded with fat marketing budgets and green washing (a false or inaccurate claim to be natural). You want to make the right choice, but after a while you decide to either close your eyes and point or follow the shiniest object. When I start to feel like a sheep being led to slaughter I clear my head with some more pounding and cleaning on the airstream. After employing this cyclical pattern of research and demolition, I have started to narrow the contenders.
We would love to be an all-electric, renewable resource system. The problem is we are still figuring out if we can produce enough electricity to meet our bottom line. Useful home appliances such as a hot water heater and stove use a considerable amount of energy in a short time period, not to mention the demand of a refrigerator, no matter how energy efficient the fridge. Also there is the added complication that our airstream has considerable less roof space than your typical home.
